Come spend the morning at Hallockville learning about and working with oxen! We will start the day with a chat over coffee about exactly “what is an ox, anyway?”, how oxen are used in the US and abroad both historically and today, and how to think like an ox! Then, we’ll head out to the field to work with our resident team of oxen, Eddie and Dylan. We will practice the proper technique to put on a halter, groom the team, and talk about basic feeding and care of these fantastic animals.
We welcome all participants 12 and over, and recommend closed-toed shoes (preferably boots!), water, sun protection, and a desire to try something new. No previous large animal experience is required – this course is designed as an introduction to working with large animals, building confidence and skills, and having fun outside on the beautiful North Fork. We can’t wait to meet you out on the field! Advanced registration is required.
