Learn the history of the Penny Rug. This primitive hand-crafted table covering dates back to the 1700s and became popular in the 1800s. Wool felted circles are sewn in layers to a base fabric using simple embroidered stiches to create this colorful family heirloom. Start by choosing a traditional design or kick it up a notch and choose a pattern with a contemporary twist.
