He has given hundreds of talks and programs and led nature walks on a wide range of natural history and environmental topics for many organizations. John has written articles that have appeared in numerous newsletters and magazines including Defenders\, Birder’s World\, Long Island Forum\, Bird Watcher’s Digest\, Networking Magazine\, and The Conservationist. He is the author of a popular Long Island nature guide “Exploring the Other Island: A Seasonal Nature Guide to Long Island” (2nd Edition). John was co-founder of the Long Island Pine Barrens Society\, a group whose mission is to promote education\, to advocate for the protection of Long Island’s drinking water and to preserve open spaces especially in the Pine Barrens. John currently works a senior policy advisory for Senior Policy Advisor.\n—\nOctober 23 at 6:30 p.m in the Naugles Barn. DESCRIPTION:Craftwork has been among the activities at Hallockville since its beginning\, and the Sound Avenue Stitchers\, a group created for sharing and continuing the fiber arts tradition\, are an integral part of it. Fiber arts include sewing\, quilting\, needlepoint\, macrame\, weaving\, felting\, crocheting\, knitting\, embroidery\, rug hooking and basket weaving. The group’s mission is to share techniques\, innovations\, products and upcoming events pertaining to fiber arts and to socialize while working on their projects. \nThe Stitchers meet at the Hudson-Sydlowski House meeting room on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to join\, just come on by!
